I believe the pen is indeed mightier than the sword. Man wields both. Where the pen is controlled by Man, the majority rules. Where the sword is controlled by man, the minority rules. Man is at its collective best when celebrating its successes and honestly confronting its failures.Shakespeare’s ‘Macbeth’ contains the line: "Why should I play the Roman fool, and die on mine own sword?" A query for people who both live and die by the sword. That these words were penned over five hundred years ago speaks volumes.
In a curious way, intelligence is at the heart of the matter. The pen demands intelligence. The sword reprimands intelligence. The pen has aided Man's quest for intelligence. The sword has repressed it.
As a teacher, I have seen the educational power of the pen as our young people learn its language. As a teacher I have also seen the demeaning power of the sword, its cutting edge, as it endangers our families, our schools, and our streets. The pen is carried with pride by young people and used for enrichment. The sword is carried with anger by young people and used to destruct our world. Enrichment prevents anger. I do believe the pen is mightier than the sword.

A pen can take you further in life than a sword. A pen can make someone else happy, but a sword will give somebody pain.
A pen is by far mightier in the long run.
I can see the physical 'might' of the sword, that it can cause destruction. But I would like to think of the positives of a pen.
Education, letters and value.
But, if you write something nasty with a pen, can it have the same effect as a sword?

if you want someone to do something would you choose a pen or a sword?
A pen can make then understand what you want but a sword will force them to do what you want, like blackmail
as much as we try to convince people to do things a lot of the time it dosen't work so we find our selves using bribes or blackmail, which we know is wrong

It depends on what you're after. A pen can create a greater legacy than a sword can. So, if your intention is to create immortality for yourself, a pen serves the greater purpose.
However, in this life, right now, a sword is more powerful. Mankind as a whole is ignorant to intelligence, and refuses to listen to those who are in possession of it. They prefer to go with the herd, following what society prefers, instead of what intelligence dictates. Therefore, a vast majority of people will not read about most philosophical teachings, which renders the sword greater in the short term, because, even if you use low intelligence, if you have power right at the moment, people will rather listen to you than those with wisdom.
So, my point is, over a long period, a pen is superior, but over a short period, a sword is superior.
The pen IS mightier than the sword in any situation and it's also easier to write with!
