People are 'dumber' now compared to 30 years ago.
What do you think about this statement?

It has been pointed out by someone who visited this blog that in Chinese schools, students are assessed annually on the 'Three Goods' - academic work, personal and development and social commitment - very similar to the diagram here.
It was stated that certainly, in the west, we have concentrated far too heavily in education on academic attainment alone - in the UK, for example, students now take major exams at 7,11, 14, 16 and 18 years of age.
even though its pretty insulting in some its true because now adays ppl r relying on technology more and not doing the stuff themselves and 30 yrs ago technology wasnt as good so ppl had to do things themselves
well i think this is true but not people 30 years ago would have know how to do just normal things that we don't really do now but people have become smater in some ways like kids my age they know how to work computers and go on the internet and some parents don't
i reckon its because of all the modern equipment. we have video games, blenders (yum!) computers, surrond sound systems iPods, etc.
We are too occupied by these things and dont realise that they rot your mind (i'm such a hipocrite coz im listening to my iPod now!)
We don't give a damn now about homework but we do it anyway without enthusiaism because we'd rather be playing our new x-box 360 or goin on msn.
also i think people 30 years ago did kno how to have fun because it was the '70s (groovy lol)
but in another 30 years we will be the ones smarter than the kids of 2036 becoz they might have hologram video games and robots to do their homework for them. (and chocolate unwrapping machines yum!)
have a good weekend :)
Schools have their standards set too low these days, so people aren't achieving as much as they should. I could write a report that was a few lines long, addressed every question on an assignment, had intense grammatical and spelling errors, and yet still get a good enough grade to pass. If the world is to get more intelligent, people need to raise the bar for what they see as acceptable. Years ago, passing was harder, so people worked harder to pass. Now, underachievement is easy and acceptable, so of course people are going to choose that rather than working hard.
I think people arent dumber compared to 30 years ago. I agree with p. vann on this school shave there standards set too low and children these days do not try and still pass (not naming anybody) there grades. If schools put there standards higher and pushed the kids more than we might just see some more improvment.
But you do seem to aalso think about the people that have mental problems. How are we going to help them if we set our standards higher?
I think people are dummer haha get it dummer (has no b.....)...than 30 yrs ago cause of all the techno.
