i dont think that big brother should be taken off the air just because some people dont like it. a lot of people like this show so we should keep. one channel cant plz everyone in australia. i personally dont always like the documentries on abc. does this mean they are going to take them off? NO.
Sorry i disagree, i think that Big Brother is currently the worst show on TV including Home and Away and Neighbours. Why don't you talk to your own friends rather watching weird people talk to each other.
i agree with a ferguson. It was a one time thing, the housemates had been stuck in the house for nearly 70 days and all they wanted was a bit of fun. Even Camilla said she wasn't offended by it.
U shouldn't judge the show before you see it either!

The invasion of reality TV has begun and the craze is set to grow in Australia due to its popularity with young audiences. Programs such as Survivor and Big Brother have proved to be big winners for the networks - so what's the attraction?
For the networks, reality TV shows are a cheap alternative to other programming. No scriptwriter is required, nor paid actors or complex sets, and they can rake in the ratings - compare this with the millions per episode required to produce a sitcom such as ‘Friends’. TV executives are constantly on the lookout for new reality formats to grab their share of the youth audience, a difficult market for advertisers to reach.
Supporters of ‘Big Brother’ seem to claim the show makes intriguing viewing. Tired of the traditional soaps, sitcoms and dramas, viewers enjoy watching the relationships of the contestants revealed and the chance to observe human behavior and interaction from a safe distance. What's more, there's often the possibility of affecting the result with a phone call, as is the case with ‘Big Brother’.
But how far is too far? How weird, treacherous or degrading will reality programs become in a bid to maximise ratings? Those offended by reality TV (I will admit I am quite often one of these people) claim that such programs rely on invasions of privacy or placing ordinary people in increasingly extreme situations for the sake of ratings. I would argue that this program manipulates contestants, exposes impressionable young audiences to distorted values and too often rely on a formula in voyeurism is the key ingredient.
I believe that ‘Big Brother’ has little in common with reality. The shows features a carefully selected group of people, confined in an artificial environment. They are monitored relentlessly and constrained by a range of arbitrary rules. I would ask whether this reality TV show is even capable of conveying reality - does human behavior change once under scrutiny of a camera?
The recent 'sex scandal' in the ‘Big Brother’ house had so many of us asking questions about the show, the behaviour of the housemates and, most importantly, ourselves. What we've seen in this ‘Big Brother’ show is now not just one, but a second incident (there was another situation on last year’s show), which encourages demeaning and potentially criminal conduct against women in the Big Brother house.
Some of the questions I heard (as the 'scandal' broke) were: how could this be allowed to happen? When is it all right for two men to hold down a woman while one of them ‘performs a lurid sex act’? What does this say about the nature of 'play' between the sexes in this day and age? Why didn't Big Brother intervene?
Should someone have stopped this? Is it OK? Is ‘Big Brother’ only about sex and sleaze? Or is it about social relationships? Can we learn something about the young people of today by watching and listening to the actions of the people in the house? Does reality TV need controversy such as this to survive or is there more to the show?
Reality television, by definition, is an outright lie. The point is to get people to watch. Almost no-one will have the voyeuristic experience of living in a camera and microphone filled house with 10 other people. The high ratings for such shows rely on this complete departure from the reality of the majority of Australians. This reliance on being shocking and exciting also requires the makers of such entertainment to keep pushing the envelope further and further, in order to keep attracting viewers.
I'm not saying that you shouldn't watch reality TV programming - I enjoy watching ‘It takes Two’ and ‘Australian Idol’. However, I do question the healthiness and value of TV shows, such as ‘Big Brother’! And I also question the motivations behind being a viewer of some of these reality TV shows that are ethically suspect. Instead of passively accepting whatever media companies try to feed you, it would be better to take some time to reflect on why such programming is made and why you feel attracted to it. Perhaps you will find that your motivations themselves are not so attractive.

no matter how funny people think it is, it's moraly/ethicly wrong.
also i just don't see the point of watching people live in a house with each other. look in the tv guide and count big brother hour's....... what a waste of time(no offence).
The people had to sigh a contract to say they wouldn't tell the press what goes on. is it wright to hide what goes on (is made go on) behind the scenes to the public?

The people on big brother know what they are doing and getting on the show is a once in a lifetime experience.
You may not like it but i as well as many other people enjoy watching the show and it is also a very highly rated show so i don't think they are going to axe it!
I think BB is really stupid. We are watching people as if they "are being natural", but we know better. The housemates enter the show with full knowledge that they are on camera and who doesn't show off for the camera a bit?
If you want to watch real people, look around the classroom.
I agree with squinlivan and aferguson. there are so many people that complaining about this show. if people dont like it..its not like their forced to watch it. we dont all like the same programs. but if it really is such a HUGE problem to the people that dont like it i only have a few words.... CHANGE THE CHANNEL theres more than 1 channel

personally, i think big brother should be kept on for next year. i love the show! 1 silly little mistake dosnt mean that it should be banned.camilla said she dosnt care and she also said that when she said "no stop" jon and ash stopped straight away. i mean seriously, dont u think u think u would get bored to, being in the house for that long, final 2 are in it for 100 days! they dont get any television or any computers or anything. How boring!
big brother is a really popular show that gets really good ratings and millions of aussies would be so dissapointed if it got taken off.
i think that if you dont like the show, then dont watch it. there are heaps of shows that i dont like, so just change the channel, its not that hard.

Hmm...Big Brother is a Australia wide show and most people watch it. But have you ever thought that watching Big Brother is like watching people in a cage. Wouldn't it get boring after a while and when it does people like to show off.
The contestants were also warned before entering the hous eabout the rules. So no matter how many people think that 'John' and 'Ashley' should stay on the show. Channel ten must take them off.
But why would someone do that? Who would be that bad to perform that on television as well? did they not here the rule or were they just having fun? No matte if they didnt hear the rules or forgot BB should be banned. As blog master recalls there was an inccedent last year to.

My opinion on Big Brother is the same as my opinion on everything else. If people want to throw away their lives watching it, they are free to. But I think it's sad that more people care about who gets kicked out of a house than art or philosophy.
These days, with the exception of a few shows, television is simply mindless viewing where people throw away years of their lives. People feel a need to watch soap operas, reality television, and what they view as "educational television", when all of them are simply a waste of time. There are very few comedies left that actually have intelligence behind them, and the news simply reports what the majority wants to hear. All music channels play talentless mainstream music, and, when they happen to actually play a band which has talent, their video is played once, at midnight. Television has basically become amusement for people who are content with mediocrity.
People complain about Big Brother. But, when you really think about it, are most television programs any better?
I think that Big Brother should not be taken off the air, because it is a great show to watch. Just because some people have something against the show and other people like it, I still would like to see it on the TV.
I think that big brother should still be on television because lots of people like this show and just because some people did something wrong on the television it doesn't mean that big brother should stop being on television. lots of people are addicted to watching big brother and just because some people are offended it doesn't mean the rest of the people are. so I say big brother should not be taken off the air.

I think they made big brother to trick every one into thinking its cool to have cam's in your house. For example: Right now London has cam's all around the city. My father, not long ago went on another blog site and the question was "Do you think camera's in London are invading ppl privese". My dad told my he said "No if ppl think their are privese is geting invaded they should go home were there is no camera's. The streets are for the public". I dont agree, i think a city, town or village are a group of ppl who should work together and should not have the privese invaded.
If you don't like Big Brother don't watch it I personally hate it I think it's a scam it's just BS I do not know why anyone would watch it and Thank God it's again crappy
