Can the assassination of a dictator be justified?
Before you consider this issue, it maybe useful for you to look at these helpful definitions:
- Assassination - is the deliberate killing of an important person, usually a political figure or other strategically important individual
- Dictator - a leader who holds an extraordinary amount of personal power, especially the power to make laws. A leader who displays brutality and oppression in the running of their country
- Regime - an administration, or a system of control and managing a government
- Arbitrary - not limited by law
Many deaths and much suffering could be prevented if one man is killed. The greater good demands a single evil act is done, especially if it would avert the immediate and certain danger of much worse evil. The alternatives to assassination would all leave a dictator in power for many years. In that time not only will many more people suffer under a repressive system, but the policies pursued by an out-of-touch and unrepresentative regime are likely to do serious (if unintentional) harm to the whole nation and its economy, making eventual rebuilding much more costly in both human and economic terms.
Arguments Against:
Murder can never be justified. If we assume the role of executioner without the backing of law, we are sinking down to the level of the dictators. Any new government founded upon such an arbitrary act will lack moral legitimacy, undermining its popular support and making its failure likely. By assuming the power to take life arbitrarily, even in an apparently good cause, we cheapen the value of life itself. Many terrorists, criminals, or indeed dictators could and have claimed similar legitimacy for their violent actions. Only if we ourselves respect human rights absolutely, will our promotion of these values seem valid to others.

I think that Some body probably America should Get ride of pplz like Sadam with all the terribale things his done sombody should get rid of him and not to mention the fact that we are fighting a war they tried to kill hitla so how is this any diffrent yes hitla did heaps of worse things but still it doz not change what Sadam has done and Sadam is Training terrorist to kill inecent pplz killig Saddam wont stop terrorisem but it will make a dent that will take time to heal
hrm. i think that people who deserve it, such as Saddam Hussein (so damn insane), should at least be sentenced to life imprisionment and hard labour for other people. or if like in Saddam's case i think death might be justifyable but i think that is what he would prefere so make him suffer i say.
Thats a good point nut by leting him live there is always a chance that he could get out he has terrorists all over the world i think and they could bust him out and by Killing him he whauld be a martor for terrorists so its a hard one
Is it ever possible to kill a dictator? i mean you might literally kill them (eg, leethal injection), but can you ever actually kill the spirit of the dictator? or the the spirit of the "believers"?
Just because something is banned by the law or a school rule doesnt neccessarily mean its going to stop. loook at drugs.
and look at dictators like Hitler. he wanted to take over the whole world. and in a sense he did. all over the world people have been taught or at least been told how he tried to kill all the Jews in the world and a movie has even been made about the "camps" these people went to. these places are now HISTORICAL PLACES TOURISTS GO!!!!!!!!!
Hitlers time has well and truely gone yet he is still receiving more than his fair share of attention! let Saddam continue his hunger strike and let him kill himself. it would save all of the tax payers money that would have been spent on the lethal injection or the electric chair. but just because he dies doesnt mean terrorism is going to get any better.
