Should we provide the same rights to gay and lesbian couples that are currently only given to heterosexual couples?
Such as the right to marry, adopt and receive benefits?

Yes of course they should. Homosexuals should be given the same rights as hetresexuals because they should be able to do what they what to do without being judged by the public
tgiles makes a very good point, homosexuals are still people, they deserve the same rights as us, even if that means marriage
Why not? Are there sound arguments against this? If so, why haven't I heard any?
I agree tgiles and and n hess...Homosexuals should definitely be given the same rights as heterosexuals..Most people aspire to one day get married and start a family so why are gay and lesbian people denied that! There are some factors as to why they may not have the rights, For example people believe that if a gay couple adopt children they won't have a normal life and that the Christian religeon disagree's with homosexualty... BUT REALLY if a child is given enough love and support even if they have gay or lesbian parents there life should be as fulfilling as anybody
elses. And the bible may say that it is a sin to be homosexual, it also says we need to accept people as they are..im not saying all christians should agree or disagree.. but they do deserve a fair go so if they want to get married and have children, they can...The goverment should get real and stop discriminating the gay community like they are.
It is morally wrong to have two people of the same gender romantically together.
Sure they are still people, but our bodies are not designed for two of the same kind.
I am not against these people being together. That is business personal to the couple, but I do not believe that homosexuality is socially acceptable, therefore they should NOT be allowed to marry.
If you had two mums or two dads together, could you imagine the embarrassment and humiliation of inviting friends over?
If people happen to have feelings for the same sex, fine. If they want to experiment and date, fine.
But being legallly married with children is a little bit too weird for my liking.
One of my parents’ colleagues happens to be homosexual. She lives with her partner and their four teenagers from previous marriages. The eldest is currently studying medicine in Adelaide. They are an extremely happy family and they seem more friendly and accepting than many other families which I have met.
Recently we were invited to dinner at their home, and I can tell you now that not one of them seemed embarrassed in any way.
Perhaps you should consider that same-sex parents can be equally capable as those in a heterosexual relationship.
I'm against same-sex marriages, but I believe it wouldn't be wrong if the government allowed people of the same sex to form under a partnership. This would entitle gays to the same rights given by marriage, in a non-religious ceremony, in which the people were united in the eyes of the government, but not in the eyes of a higher power. After all, there is supposed to be a separation of church and state, and the fact that the church doesn't allow something doesn't mean that the state shouldn't, especially if it involves gaining more rights. This would prevent the decadence of the meaning of marriage, and wouldn't offend religions who don't believe in gay marriages, while at the same time enabling homosexuals to receive the same rights as those who are in heterosexual relationships.
I fail to see how gays should not be allowed to adopt. From what I've seen, the percentage of stable gay relationships is higher than that of stable heterosexual relationships. The only reason to be embarrassed by having gay parents would be that homophobia has become the new sexism.
I have no problem with sam sex couples. You cant help it if your attracted to the same sex. It is the exact feelings that a non gay man has for a woman. They should be aloud to get married and adopt, i cant see any reasons why they shouldn't be aloud to. As long as they don't kiss in front of me I am happy for them.
LOk this might offend some people but I think it needs to be said:
Why should gays/Lezbians suffer because a lot of Australians belive in God why should they be Judged because in the eyes of Australias God its a sin.... Im sorry but I though that Christianity is to be i dont know open minded and for God to LOVE ALL humans in his world so if he loves every one in this world and wants them to be happy I dont see why he whouldnt let people have gay marrige just coz some people think its Imoral dosnt mean every 1 should think its imoral i mean Imgain if tomorow they say your only aloud to have gay marriges....... no marriges between diffrent sexs how whould millions of people feel not too good soo imagine that...... So I think all people should be treated Equaly and they should be able to do What ever they want as long as it dosnt hurt others i mean is to guys or girls getting married realy going to affect you at the end of the day......
Sorry for such a long Post
By the way Im not some guy going on as Sherbert i am from TlC lol
they should definitly be given the same rights. that is like hetrosexual or "straight" people being told that they can no longer get married because only homsexual people can. they are still people and can be very nice people and can be a lot of fun to hang around with. just because they think their gender is beautiful in the same ways "straight" people think the opposite gender is, doesnt mean they dont have feelings or want to live like "normal".
also, just because certain people believe in God and have to follow every single thing the bible says, doesnt mean everyone does . i believe in God and i also believe in free will and i know God believes in free will. so therefore does he cancel his own rule out???
Well A ferguson i hate to say it but from what im hearing the bible dosnt tell Christians much on this Topic coz on 1 hand the bible is saying god wants every 1 to be happy....... yet he dosnt want gay people to be gay so how doz that work?
I think that they should have the same rights as everybody else because they are just like us and they are still human beings and they should be treated just as fairly as everyone else. Imagine if John Howard or George Bush or even Prince Charles was gay then they would let other gays have the same rights just so that person could get married an adopt kids.
Whats the difference? girls and boys, boys and boys, girls and girls. i dont see what the big deal is. its not like their causing a crime. like i dont feel its rong to like the same sex. i have lots of family friends that are gay and they are just normal people. getting married to the same sex i dont feel would b such a problem. They are only human!
I don't allow gayness because that is not the way God wanted us to be, if He did he would have made Adam and Adam or Eve and Eve!
I agree. I personally think that people of other sexualities (as in not straight people) deserve rights like those to marry and adopt children. It's unfair that they're not being given the same chance and opportunity as others. :)
I think that they should have the same rights but i do not think that they should be able to adopt. I think that they still should be able to marry. I don't think they should be able to adopt cause it is someone elses child...no offence.
Homosexuals should certainly be given the sme rights as hetrosexuals.
What CFeguson said:

They can be unembarrassed by their relationship, whatever, thats their business,
(but just because they accept their relationship doesn't mean everyone else has to).
It's not right!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it's taking it far enough to be gay but to be married being gay is just plain stupidity. If they wan't to be gay thats fine butwhy can't they just keep it to themselves.
I believe that homosexuals should have equal rights to marriage as the straight people do. They should never be excluded in society and made out to be inferior, that are the same as us, the only thing different about them is their sexuality. Be individual? If they swing that way then let them be, too often people are too worried about other peoples lives rather than their own. we shouldn't even descriminate the homosexual people in the first place, they are humans, they are people with hair and human features, so why treat them differently and make them out to be weird, or different. It's cruel and selfish of society. Homosexual people should have the same rights aas everyone else in society.
Homosexuals are EXACTLY the same as everyone else in this world. Why give them different rights to any other's. We are all human.
It's disgusting it should be dealt with severely and iileagle but i suppose it's there choice not ours and it's not like we can completely control homosexuality and lesbionism
homosexual couples are not ment to be its not rite
