Sometimes people say:
"Why should we help people who are poor? It usually is their fault; either they are lazy or they have not used their resources and opportunities wisely."
How would you respond to this?

well i think their is two types of poor people, sometimes people choice to be poor because they like being alone others are poor because they might just be out of it because they are on drugs but i think we should help these people because people can change
i dont think thats very nice because its not always ppls fault that they r poor, and no matter if a person is rich or poor, nice or mean, if they r in trouble u should always help them
you should always help ppl. if they are lazy then help them to be not lazy.

we think that some people do abuse the welfare system because they sometimes think that why would they work when they have money sometimes poring in. Others have a job but they spend all thier money on useless things that maby make them feel better like drugs, alcohol and smoking they have no money left. Other people have disabilitys and can't find a job. with first type of people we should leave them alone if they want to be like that than they can. With the second type we should help them but not finacialy. We should help them in other ways like giving them clothes or cooking them dinner. With the last type they do need help and we should help them as much as possible. we also agree with e caldecott.
Their are many people around the world that abuse the doll system but that is a very small percentage. We should help all poor people because most of them were just born or were in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I think it can depend GREATLY on the way the person ended up poor. say if the person spent all their money on alcohol, drugs and the pokiez i wouldn't give a care in the world. But, if the person was born and raised in a poor family i would definetly support them.
i think no matter how they spent their money i.e: pokies, alchol, drugs etc. or if they were from a porr family...we should give to anyone who needs our help no matter in what way.
alot of the time poor people dont chose to be poor...their are just some people out their that have abused life and gone and got pregnat just for the sake of it and ended up not being able to afford the upkeep of the child. there fore the child might end up abanded and left with nothing. but then there are people that go and blow the money on pokies and drugs. i think we need to give to the poor and not the greedy.
I totally agree with e caldecott...people should get a fresh start and a new chance.
it says in the bible 'to serve, not to be served'! i think that we should all help one another! imagine if we didnt. people cannot help it if they are born poor or cannot afford anything! we have to help them in any ways we can. we need to give everyone a chance and new start as Lhess and Ecaldecott said.
I think that it is not their fault that they're poor. They could possibly be just old or they have no family that can help them.
